Amarnath Shakti Peeth (Mahamaya)
Nestled amidst the perpetually snow-capped peaks of the Greater Himalayas at an altitude of 3,888 meters, Amarnath is where Mata Sati’s sacred throat (Kanth) fell to the earth as Lord Vishnu released his Sudarshana Chakra to calm the cosmic Tandava of Mahadeva. Here, the Supreme Mother resides in her ethereal form as Mahamaya, guarded eternally by Lord Shiva manifested as Trisandhyeshwar. This sacred sanctum is also renowned as the cave where Bhagwan Shiva revealed the immortal secrets of the cosmos (Amar Katha) to Devi Parvati.
Katyayani Shakti Peeth (Vrindavan)
Within the divine groves of Vraja, where Lord Krishna enacted his sweet pastimes, lies the hallowed sanctum where Mata Sati’s silken ringlets of hair (Keshpaash) descended. The goddess is invoked here as Katyayani, the warrior-mother who blesses devotees with righteous boons and eternal love. It was here that the Gopis of Vrindavan performed the sacred Katyayani Vrata to attain Lord Krishna as their eternal beloved.
Vishalakshi Shakti Peeth (Varanasi)
On the venerable ghats of Kashi—the city that rests upon Shiva’s Trishul—fell the lustrous divine earrings (Kundal) and wide eyes of Mata Sati. She is consecrated as Vishalakshi, "She of the Wide, All-Encompassing Vision." Standing just steps away from the sacred Ganga and Kashi Vishwanath temple, she bestows profound wisdom, burning through centuries of karmic impressions.
Alopi / Lalita Devi Shakti Peeth (Prayagraj)
At the sacred Triveni Sangam where Ganga, Yamuna, and the mystical Saraswati converge, the ten fingers of Devi Sati fell. Known uniquely as Alopi Devi because the divine form "disappeared" (alopa) into pure consciousness, this sanctum has no stone idol; devotees instead worship a sacred wooden palanquin (Doli) draped in sanctified silk.
Jwalamukhi Shakti Peeth (Kangra)
In the rugged Shivalik hills of Kangra, the tongue of Devi Sati fell. Miraculously, there is no sculpted idol inside the sanctum sanctorum; rather, nine perpetual blue flames burn ceaselessly from crevices in the subterranean natural rock without any fuel source. Even Mughal Emperor Akbar, after attempting to extinguish the flames with streams of water and iron plates, bowed in awe and gifted a gold parasol to the Devi.
Tripurmalini Shakti Peeth (Jalandhar)
Revered as Devi Talab Mandir, this holy shrine marks the spot where Mata Sati’s left breast fell. She is revered as Tripurmalini—the cosmic empress adorned with the garland of the three worlds. The temple sits at the heart of an ancient holy water tank (sarovar) renowned for its sacred vibrations.
Devikoop Bhadrakali Shakti Peeth (Kurukshetra)
On the historic battlefield of Dharma at Kurukshetra, the right ankle bone of Mata Sati fell. Before the great Mahabharata war, Bhagwan Shri Krishna and the Pandava prince Arjuna offered prayers and sacrificed horses here to seek Mata Bhadrakali’s blessings for the victory of righteousness over Adharma.
Patan Devi / Magadh Shakti Peeth (Patna)
In ancient Pataliputra, along the sacred path of the Ganga, the right thigh of Sati fell to the earth. She is worshipped in twin sanctums—Badi Patan Devi and Chhoti Patan Devi—as Sarvanandkari, the mother who fulfills all rightful wishes and protects the historic realm of Magadha.
Manasa Shakti Peeth (Lake Manasarovar)
At the foot of Mount Kailash—the supreme abode of Mahadeva—the right palm of Mata Sati fell into the crystal-clear, azure waters of sacred Lake Manasarovar. The goddess is adored as Dakshayani, the divine daughter who surrendered herself for the honor of Shiva.

In the ancient holy city of Karveer, the three divine eyes of Mata Sati fell. Here, the Goddess is worshipped as Mahalakshmi or Ambabai, the eternal consort of Vishnu who decided to reside in Kolhapur. The stone deity, carved from black basalt, is aligned so that twice a year the setting rays of the sun (Kiranotsav) pass through the temple gates to kiss the feet, waist, and face of the Goddess.
Bhramari Janasthan Shakti Peeth (Nashik)
In the Dandakaranya forest where Sri Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana spent their exile, the chin of Mata Sati fell. She is worshipped as Bhramari Devi—the warrior aspect who assumed the form of millions of black bees to destroy the demon Arunasura.
Ambaji Shakti Peeth (Arasur)
Perched atop the ancient Aravalli hills, Ambaji marks the supreme ground where the heart of Mata Sati fell. Astonishingly, no murti is installed within the golden inner sanctum; instead, the pristine, gold-plated Viso Yantra (inscribed with sacred syllables) is venerated with covered eyes. A perpetual flame burns on the nearby Gabbar Hill.
Manivedika Gayatri Shakti Peeth (Pushkar)
Overlooking the holy Pushkar lake—the only earthly abode where Lord Brahma is worshipped—Mata Sati’s wrists and sacred bracelets descended. Here she reigns as Gayatri, the Mother of the Vedas and embodiment of celestial solar illumination.
Virat Ambika Shakti Peeth (Jaipur)
In the ancient kingdom of Matsya (Viratnagar), where the Pandavas spent their final year of exile in incognito (Agyatvas), the toes of Mata Sati’s left foot fell. The Devi is revered as Ambika, protected by Lord Shiva as Amriteshwar.

On the banks of the sacred Godavari River, Mata Sati’s cheeks descended. Known as Sarvashail, the Devi is worshipped as Vishwamatrika—the Cosmic Mother who nourishes all beings in the universe.
Shuchindram Narayani Shakti Peeth (Kanyakumari)
At the southern tip of the Indian peninsula where the three oceans meet, the upper teeth of Mata Sati fell. Here, she is worshipped as Narayani within the unique Thanumalayan temple, which integrates Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva in a single Linga.
Bhramaramba Shrishailam Shakti Peeth
Perched atop the verdant Nallamala hills beside the Krishna River, Srisailam is uniquely sacred as both a Maha Shakti Peeth and one of the 12 Jyotirlingas (Mallikarjuna). Mata Sati’s neck fell here, and she is invoked as Bhramaramba—the mother who took the form of a golden bee to vanquish demon Arunasura.
Kamakshi Kanchipuram Shakti Peeth
In the sacred temple town of Kanchipuram, the skeleton/pelvis of Mata Sati fell. Adi Shankaracharya installed the famous Sri Chakra in front of the deity in the Gayatri Mandapa to calm the fierce aspect of the goddess and bring about a state of supreme serenity (Shanta Swaroopa).
Kanyakumari Kanyashram Shakti Peeth
Where the Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea, and Bay of Bengal coalesce, the back of Devi Sati fell. The goddess manifested as a virgin maiden (Kanya Kumari) to slay the demon Banasura, who was destined to die only at the hands of an adolescent maiden.

Kireeteshwari Shakti Peeth (Murshidabad)
In the rural heartlands of Bengal, the jewel-studded celestial crown (Kireeta) of Mata Sati fell. It is considered one of the oldest Shakti Peethas in Bengal, having survived royal upheavals for more than a millennium.
Attahas Shakti Peeth (Labhpur)
The lower lip of Mata Sati fell in Birbhum. The word "Attahas" translates to a resounding, cosmic laughter that dissolves fear and destroys demonic pride. The goddess is named Phullara, "She who blooms perpetually with divine grace."
Nandipur Shakti Peeth (Sainthia)
Beneath a sprawling sacred banyan tree on the banks of Mayurakshi river, Mata Sati’s celestial necklace descended. The shrine is presided over by Mata Nandini and guarded by Nandikeshwar.
Nalhateshwari Shakti Peeth (Nalhati)
Perched on a serene hillock, Nalhateshwari marks the spot where Mata Sati’s windpipe (Nala) descended. A perennial natural spring flows beside the deity, carrying healing mineral waters.
Bahula Shakti Peeth (Ketugram)
Along the Ajay river, Mata Sati’s left arm fell. The word Bahula translates to "abundance of light and prosperity." Accompanied by Bhiruk Bhairav, she protects seekers from all forms of danger.
Trisrota Shakti Peeth (Jalpaiguri)
Where the Teesta River splits into three mountain torrents (Trisrota), Mata Sati’s left leg fell. The surrounding pine and tea forests create an atmosphere of intense meditative stillness.
Vibhasha Shakti Peeth (Tamluk)
In the historic port city of Tamralipta, Mata Sati’s left ankle descended. Known locally as Bargabhima, the stone deity is intricately carved in high relief in the style of early Kalinga temple architecture.
Ujjani / Mangal Chandi Shakti Peeth (Guskara)
Mata Sati’s right wrist descended at Ujjani along the banks of the Ajay river. The presiding deity Mangal Chandi is the harbinger of good fortune and planetary blessings.
Kalighat Shakti Peeth (Kolkata)
On the old course of the sacred Adi Ganga, the four toes of Mata Sati’s right foot fell. Kalighat is universally celebrated as the supreme epicenter of Kali worship. The iconic deity has three massive eyes, four golden hands, and a protruding tongue of pure gold, embodying the boundless compassion of the Mother.
Bakreshwar Shakti Peeth (Birbhum)
Where Mata Sati’s mind and the center of the eyebrows (Ajna Chakra) fell, lies Bakreshwar. Surrounding the temple are eight natural therapeutic geothermal hot springs with medicinal mineral properties.

Kamakhya Shakti Peeth (Guwahati)
Atop the picturesque Nilachal hill overlooking the mighty Brahmaputra river, the sacred womb (Yoni) of Devi Sati descended. Kamakhya is universally revered as the supreme fountainhead of Tantra and the mother of all Shakti Peethas. Within the dark cave sanctum, there is no sculpted idol; a natural subterranean spring flows continuously over a cleft in the bedrock.
Jayanti Shakti Peeth (Meghalaya)
Amidst the mist-laden heights of the Jaintia Hills in Meghalaya, the left thigh of Mata Sati descended. The Durga temple at Nartiang is centuries old and blends Khasi tribal reverence with Vedic Shakta tradition, featuring ancient megaliths.
Tripura Sundari Shakti Peeth (Udaipur)
On a tortoise-shaped hillock (Kurma Pitha) beside Kalyan Sagar lake, the right foot of Devi Sati fell. Consecrated by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya in 1501 CE, the temple houses a radiant black stone idol of Soroshi (Tripura Sundari).
Biraja / Viraja Shakti Peeth (Jajpur)
On the banks of the sacred Baitarani River in Odisha, the navel (Nabhi) of Mata Sati fell. Consecrated as Biraja Kshetra, the two-armed Mahishasuramardini idol here spears the demon with her Trishula while pulling the demon’s tail, reflecting very ancient iconography.
Baidyanath / Jai Durga Shakti Peeth (Deoghar)
Within the holy complex of Baba Baidyanath Jyotirlinga, the divine heart of Mata Sati descended. A red sacred knot (Gathbandhan) is tied between the dome of Shiva’s temple and the temple of Mata Parvati, symbolizing the eternal union of consciousness and energy.

In the legendary city of Avantika (Ujjain) along the sacred Shipra River, the elbow of Devi Sati fell. It was the chosen protective deity of the legendary Emperor Vikramaditya. In the temple courtyard stand two colossal 50-foot stone lamp pillars (Deepstambhas) that hold over 1,000 oil lamps.
Shondesh / Narmada Udgam Shakti Peeth (Amarkantak)
At the source of the holy Narmada River and Son River in the Maikal mountain range, the right buttock of Mata Sati fell. Here, nature itself is venerated as the manifestation of the Mother.

Across the Palk Strait on the emerald island of Nainativu off the coast of Jaffna, the jeweled anklets (Nupur) of Mata Sati descended. Lord Indra worshipped here to be redeemed of his curse, consecrating the Mother as Indrakshi.
Muktinath / Gandaki Shakti Peeth (Nepal)
Perched at a breathless altitude of 3,710 meters against the snow-laden Annapurna range, the forehead of Devi Sati fell where the holy Gandaki River flows. The Gandaki River is the sole source on Earth of sacred Shaligram stones carrying fossilized marks of Vishnu’s discus (Chakra).
Guhyeshwari Shakti Peeth (Kathmandu)
Near the venerable Pashupatinath temple along the holy Bagmati river in Kathmandu, both knees of Mata Sati fell. Consecrated as Guhyeshwari ("The Secret Mother"), the shrine is shaped like a Kalasha (divine pot) placed above a natural subterranean spring.
Hinglaj Mata Shakti Peeth (Balochistan)
In a remote, dramatic mud-volcano gorge inside Hingol National Park in Balochistan, the crown of the head (Brahmarandhra) of Mata Sati fell. Revered by Hindus as Hinglaj Devi and honored by local Baloch Muslims as "Nani Mandir," the deity rests inside a natural mountain cave.
Sugandha Shakti Peeth (Shikarpur)
Along the banks of the Sunanda river in southern Bangladesh, the sacred nose of Devi Sati fell. Known as Sugandha ("fragrant"), the shrine radiates subtle spiritual grace.
Karatoya Tat Shakti Peeth (Bogra)
On the banks of the Karatoya River in Bhabanipur, the left anklet of Mata Sati descended. The goddess is adored as Aparna—the aspect of Parvati who gave up even eating fallen leaves while performing intense penance to marry Shiva.
Chattal Bhavani Shakti Peeth (Sitakunda)
Perched atop Chandranath Hill at an altitude of 350 meters overlooking the Bay of Bengal, the right arm of Mata Sati fell. Natural inflammable gas vents around the mountain have caused holy subterranean flames to burn for millennia.
Yashoreshwari Shakti Peeth (Ishwaripur)
In the southern delta of the Sundarbans in Bangladesh, the left palm of Mata Sati fell. The ancient temple was restored by the valiant King Pratapaditya in the 16th century.

According to ancient Tantra Churamani texts, the right ankle ornament of Sati descended at Shri Parvat. Various traditions place this site either in the lofty mountains of Ladakh or on the ancient trade routes near Sylhet.
Panchasagar Shakti Peeth
Mata Sati’s lower row of teeth fell at Panchasagar, where she is invoked as Varahi—the fierce boar-headed Matrika goddess who lifts creation from cosmic waters.
Bhairav Parvat Shakti Peeth
Associated with the steep volcanic crags of sacred Mount Girnar in Saurashtra and the river bluffs of Ujjain, where the upper lip of Devi Sati fell.
Mithila Shakti Peeth (Janakpur / Bihar)
In the historic land of King Janaka and Mata Sita, the left shoulder of Mata Sati descended. The goddess is adored as Uma, the gentle daughter of Himavat.
Ratnavali Shakti Peeth
The right shoulder of Mata Sati descended at Ratnavali. The presiding deity Kumari is the youthful, untainted maiden form of the Supreme Goddess.
Kalamadhav Shakti Peeth
In the peaceful forest valleys along the Son and Mandakini rivers, the left buttock of Mata Sati descended. The sanctum is protected by Asitanga Bhairav.
Ramgiri / Maihar Shakti Peeth
Perched atop the steep Trikuta Hill at Maihar, Mata Sati’s right breast fell. She is revered across northern and central India as Maa Sharda, the goddess of learning, music, and eloquence. Legendary warrior brothers Alha and Udal were blessed with immortality by Maa Sharda, and local tradition holds that Alha still visits before dawn to offer the first wild flowers to the Mother.
