Narmada Udgam and Sonmuda are different places
Anuppur district describes the Narmada temple complex at Amarkantak and lists Sonmuda, the source of the Sone, separately. The Shondesh name in a Peetha list should therefore not be used to merge the two river-source locations.
The photographed Narmada setting is relevant to Amarkantak's pilgrimage landscape. It does not, on its own, settle every interpretation of Shondesh. Keep the river, shrine and list identification distinct when comparing sources.
Names recorded in the tradition
- Goddess
- Mata Narmada
- Bhairava
- Bhadrasen
- Sati association in this list
- Right Buttock (Dakshina Nitamba)
These are devotional associations, not archaeological findings. Lists and local identifications can differ.
