Prabhas Patan, Gujarat
Somnath connects Shiva devotion with the coast of Saurashtra. Its sacred reputation and the history of earlier temples should be distinguished from the present reconstructed building. Check the temple trust’s current visitor information before travelling.
Srisailam, Andhra Pradesh
The Srisailam pilgrimage includes Mallikarjuna and Bhramaramba, bringing Shiva and Goddess devotion into one setting. Give the temples and the surrounding landscape enough time, and confirm seva and accommodation arrangements through the Devasthanam.
Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh
Mahakaleshwar is closely associated with the religious life of Ujjain and the Bhasma Aarti. Participation in a particular ceremony may require arrangements different from general darshan. Use the temple’s current instructions rather than a fixed schedule copied from an old article.
Mandhata, Madhya Pradesh
The Narmada and its island setting are central to the experience of Omkareshwar. The wider pilgrimage includes nearby sacred places with their own traditions. Confirm routes and local access before adding walks or river activities to the visit.
Rudraprayag district, Uttarakhand
Kedarnath’s high-altitude setting makes season, weather and preparation especially important. During winter closure, related worship continues at Ukhimath. Opening dates, registration and transport arrangements require a current check through the responsible authorities.
Pune district, Maharashtra
Bhimashankar combines a Shiva shrine with a forested hill setting. Allow for weather and the condition of paths, especially if travelling beyond the main temple approach. Keep waste out of the landscape and choose a route suitable for the whole group.
Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh
Kashi Vishwanath belongs to the dense religious and urban life of Varanasi. Learn the current entry and security arrangements before leaving belongings behind or joining a queue. The surrounding ghats and neighbourhoods deserve consideration as lived spaces as well as pilgrimage destinations.
Nashik district, Maharashtra
Trimbakeshwar is connected with the sacred geography of the Godavari. The shrine’s threefold association is part of its devotional explanation. Ask for clear information before booking a ceremony, and distinguish temple access from any nearby hill or river itinerary.

Near Dwarka, Gujarat; other identifications exist
Nageshwar near Dwarka is a familiar destination on many Jyotirlinga itineraries. Interpretations of the traditional location vary. Do not confuse its image or visitor information with the Dwarkadhish temple, which belongs to a different devotional context.
Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu
Rameswaram connects Rama’s story with worship of Shiva and is also part of the cardinal Char Dham circuit. The corridors and sacred-water traditions are distinctive. Ask about current procedures and do not assume every visitor must follow an identical bathing sequence.
Near Ellora, Maharashtra
Grishneshwar can be considered alongside a visit to nearby Ellora, but the living temple and the protected cave complex have different purposes and visitor arrangements. Leave time for each, respect worship restrictions and check practical information separately.
