Why the flame is central at Jwalamukhi
At Jwalamukhi the flames, rather than a conventional sculpted image alone, are central to the shrine's identity. Himachal Tourism describes a natural-gas flame emerging from rock and revered as the Goddess. Describing the flame as having no fuel would confuse a devotional expression with a physical explanation.
The association with Sati's tongue belongs to the sacred narrative. A visitor can appreciate the form of worship without treating that narrative as geological evidence. Jwalamukhi is a specific destination in the Kangra region; the general label 'Kangra temples' includes several other shrines.
