Turn the packet over before reading the promises on its front. Can you identify the ingredients, the maker, the batch, the date and the intended use? If the information appears only on the outer carton, keep it. A jar separated from its box can be surprisingly hard to identify later.
A familiar plant name is only one part of the description. The part used, the form of the preparation and the other ingredients can change the question you need to ask. Some Ayurvedic products have contained harmful levels of metals. A reassuring adjective on the front does not tell you what testing a particular batch received.
If you are considering a product while taking prescribed medicine, show the actual label to your pharmacist or clinician. A photograph of the front and back is more useful than trying to remember the colour of the box. If the contents or maker cannot be established, leave the uncertainty unresolved rather than guessing.
